Extractions & Minor Oral Surgical Procedures
Extractions & Minor Oral Surgical Procedures
At our dental practice, we prioritize the preservation of your natural teeth whenever possible. However, there are situations where tooth extraction becomes the most appropriate course of action. We are committed to providing expert care in both extractions and certain minor oral surgeries to ensure your oral health remains optimal.
Salvaging Teeth:
Our primary objective is to save teeth whenever feasible. We employ a variety of restorative techniques to repair damaged or decayed teeth. However, when a tooth is extensively compromised and cannot be restored, extraction becomes the preferred treatment option.
Wisdom Teeth Management:
Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, often pose unique challenges. These teeth typically emerge during late adolescence or early adulthood and can cause a range of issues. They may erupt at an angle, partially due to a lack of space in the mouth, or they may remain impacted below the gum line. Due to their position at the back of the mouth, wisdom teeth can be challenging to clean and are generally not used for biting. As a result, we frequently recommend the extraction of wisdom teeth, especially if they are causing pain, swelling, or other discomfort. The removal of wisdom teeth may require a minor surgical procedure, which we perform with precision and care.
Impacted Teeth:
Besides wisdom teeth, other teeth can become impacted, meaning they are unable to erupt properly. Impacted teeth can lead to pain, infection, and damage to adjacent teeth and requires its precise removal to alleviate discomfort and prevent further dental issues.

Surgical Extractions:
In some cases, teeth may require a surgical extraction, which involves making a small incision in the gum tissue to access and remove the tooth.
- Surgery for Dental Implants: Dental implants are titanium fixtures surgically inserted into jawbone to replace missing tooth roots. These posts serve as sturdy anchors for lifelike prosthetic teeth, such as crowns, bridges, or dentures. We utilize advanced technology and precise techniques to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.
Immediate dental implants, also known as same-day implants or one-day implants, are a cutting-edge dental treatment that involves the placement of a dental implant and a temporary crown on the same day a tooth is extracted. This innovative approach streamlines the traditional dental implant process, significantly reducing the time between tooth extraction and tooth replacement.
More details on dental implants are given in the section of Replacement of teeth.
- Other minor surgical procedures:
Besides extraction of teeth and surgical placement of implants, our Oral Surgeon can perform few more Oral surgical procedures at clinic including:
ØBiopsies: When there is suspicion of oral cancer or other pathological conditions, a biopsy may be necessary to collect tissue for examination. This can help diagnose and plan treatment for various oral diseases.
Ø Pre-Prosthetic Surgery: Some patients require minor oral surgery to prepare their mouth for the placement of dental prosthetics like dentures, bridges, or dental implants. Procedures such as bone grafting or soft tissue augmentation may be necessary.
Ø Frenectomy: A frenectomy involves the removal of a small fold of tissue (frenulum) that can restrict the movement of the tongue (lingual frenectomy) or the upper lip (labial frenectomy). This procedure is sometimes necessary for improved speech or orthodontic treatment.
Ø Apicoectomy: In cases of persistent root canal infections, an apicoectomy may be performed. This involves the removal of the infected tip of a tooth’s root and sealing the root canal to prevent further infection.
Ø Treatment of Cysts and Abscesses: Dental surgeons can diagnose and treat oral cysts or abscesses, which are often associated with infections or cystic growths in the oral cavity.
